Occupational Health Physiotherapy – What our patients say?

We collect feedback from all our patients who have attended our onsite service. We asked three colleagues some extra questions recently. Check it out below.

John, Warehouse Operative (Dispatch) – At work, in pain with Knee Osteoarthritis.

What were your first thoughts when you got asked to attend Physiotherapy at work?
I was unsure at first. It was something I had never heard of happening, I’d never really been to physiotherapy before, or knew what would be involved. I wondered if there was any point in attending with my knee pain. My GP had told me it was Osteoarthritis, so I didn’t think there was anything that could be done.

Talk us through your journey with us…
I remained skeptical initially. The first session was very informative, I listened, but still didn’t think it would work. It was not until we had more and more sessions that I thought it was helping. I was re-assessed every few weeks and provided with different exercises to try, the advice however remained consistent, I could get better, with effort. I have been discharged recently and whilst we were under no illusion my arthritis would go away, it is now under control and I can function so much better.

What would be your recommendations/ Top Tips be for other colleagues attending the service?
Go into it with an open mind, even if you think it won’t help. My physiotherapist was very honest and open about the whole process.
Richard, Production Line Assembly Worker – In Pain at Work – general aches and pains.

What were your first thoughts when you got asked to attend Physiotherapy at work?
First thoughts… what have I done wrong? I thought I was in trouble, or not doing my job properly. I’d had some aches and pains for a long time and there were certain tasks I was struggling to do. It wasn’t until I attended the appointment when I realised that maybe work were actually trying to help!

How do you feel this service has benefitted you?
The constant pain I was experiencing has now gone. I still get some aches and pains; I have a manual job. I’m now just really pleased it’s no longer affecting my sleep or making me miserable.

What would be your recommendations/ Top Tips be for other colleagues attending the service?

Don’t presume that work is trying to catch you out. Maybe they are just trying to help. My opinions on my employer have changed somewhat following this. It great to see a company looking out for their employee wellbeing!
Tracy, Manufacturing Engineer – Off Work with Low Back Pain

What were your first thoughts when you got asked to attend Physiotherapy at work?
I’ll be honest, I was just really grateful for someone to be helping. Getting an appointment with the doctor had been bordering on impossible, and even if you do get an appointment, it’s only over the phone. It is so nice to be able to come and see someone face to face. I didn’t think about the bigger picture of the service, but just how it could benefit me.

Talk us through what happened at your first appointment…

A chunk of my first appointment was mainly talking. I was in so much pain, I was a little worried about being prodded and poked if I’m honest. The physiotherapist reassured me and kept me informed at all times. I left the first session feeling much better. I’m not sure if it was psychological or not, or just the fact the someone had told me what they thought was wrong and what I could do about it.

What would be your recommendations/ Top Tips be for other colleagues attending the service?
In my opinion, half the battle (or maybe more than half) is knowing what you need to do to help yourself at home. My advice… listen to what the physio tells you, it works.
